Urban Development Directorate (UDD), under the Ministry of Housing and Public Works, is the only Government Organization to impart physical planning services. It is well recognized that now-a-days, the Physical Planning as a process opens itself to the participatory appraisal system to the public. It also makes a more realistic view of the limits of the possibilities while allocating or reallocating the resources likely to be available for implementation in creating spaces. As the world grows more and more urban, it is vital that, as governments accept urbanization as a positive trend, urban and regional planning fulfils its proper role in guiding rural-urban development when it comes to improving access to services, and economic & social opportunities.

UDD is enriched with highly qualified & experienced professionals forming a multidisciplinary team of planner, engineer, geographer, economist and sociologist. The strong base of professionalism has been developed over the last decade that can undoubtedly play an effective role in shaping a positive urban and regional future. 

UDD provides an opportunity to reflect on how our cities and towns could be better places to live, grow and prosper. It as not just about improving human habitat, but about creating opportunities for all in urban areas to live more sustainable, equitable and better lives, especially for the poor and vulnerable. I am confident that UDD will make equally impressive progress in challenging the urban environment. Through UDD’s initiative cities and towns will be more secure, greener and more inclusive, and that provide safer, more equitable and more sustainable lives for those that call them home.

UDD has recently upgraded its website and linked to National E-Infokosh which opens window for the citizens to access information of UDD’s activities as well as interact with UDD official via e-mail.
