The Government of the People’s Republic of Bangladesh, concerned with the progressive imbalance that has been developing between its population and the land, has recognized the need for a coherent and integrated rural-urban development strategy in order to anticipate the problems of very rapid urbanization and unplanned growth. The spatial allocation of development funds has in the past tended to follow a random pattern and it is now believed that physical planning at National, Regional and Local level is the best medium to achieve balanced and orderly growth. Urban Development Directorate (UDD) which was created in 1965, as an apex body at the national level, is the only government organization to work for this national level outstanding task, UDD is organized with a multidisciplinary team to accomplish such magnificent task in an integrated and comprehensive manner.

I wish a very success and hope that UDD will lead us to make ecologically designed living space, disaster resilient compacted urban area, and self adaptive capability against adverse impact of climate change for our generation.
